“Facebook Payments International Ltd (FBPIL) is very pleased to have been approved authorisation as an electronic money institution by the Central Bank of Ireland,” the social media giant told NFC World.
“The licence enables us to roll out products like charitable donations on Facebook and peer-to-peer payments via Messenger in Europe, as we have in the US.
“The licence authorises FBPIL to issue donations from Facebook users to charities registered in the European Economic Area (EEA) only, and peer-to-peer payments within the EEA.”
Facebook was granted the licence in October and authorised services include credit transfer, payment transactions and money remittance. The company launched Messenger payments across the US in March 2015.
